Individual, Group, Marital and Family Counseling
Children & Adolescents: Counselors who specialize in children and adolescents see clients individually, in group, or in family therapy. Counselors enable clients to work through personal and family issues, including concerns about school, depression, developmental difficulties, behavior problems, and family crisis.
Individuals: Counselors can help individuals cope with personal problems, find solutions, and make lasting changes.
Families & Couples: Counselors work with families and couples to address issues that affect their relationships. These include parent/child conflicts, marital problems, blended families. Counseling can improve communication skills, promote conflict resolution, and improve family functioning.
Community Psycho-educational Classes & Consultation
Consultation: Both individual and group consultation services are available to community agencies, schools, and parents. Consultation services typically include educational workshops, classroom presentations on a variety of mental health topics, conflict resolution, problem solving, and general support.
Psychological testing and assessment is available to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of particular problems. Testing can address a variety of mental health and educational issues such as personality issues, career decisions, learning disabilities, dyslexia and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Collaborative Partnerships with Monitoring Professionals
Counselors provide open communication with client approval on all monitoring professionals such as teachers, psychiatrists, and community agencies to ensure each client receives the best possible care.
Dyslexia Testing- Dyslexia is an issue that is not recognized in most schools. It is often diagnosed as a reading comprehension issue, a language processing problem, and a variety of other learning disability issues. Parents find that after all of the interventions tried at home and at school their child is still not progressing and retaining information as one would expect to happen after so much repeated teaching.
One common myth about dyslexia is that it is a medical diagnosis. This is not the case. There is no single test that will test for dyslexia. The testing requires an extensive battery of tests that will assess specific areas that only people with dyslexia will display difficulties with. Dyslexia is not about “seeing words backwards”. It is a combination of reading and spelling difficulties coupled with difficulties in memorizing random facts (multiplication tables, abc’s, address etc)and other very unique traits. If you suspect that you or a child is having some of these unique challenges, give our office a call for more information.
